Cozy mixed reality games for Meta Quest 3

Mixed reality is at its best when it is gentle. Instead of shutting your room out, these games move into it: a pet on your rug, a garden on your desk, a spaceship in your lounge. Here are our favourite relaxing mixed reality games for Quest 3 and 3S, starting with the one we make.

Our pick · Virtual pet

1. MyVrPet

Tobby the orange tabby cat looking up at the player from a real wooden floor

Most pet games put a pet in a scene. MyVrPet puts a life-sized cat or dog in your room and lets you touch it. Your Quest's room scan tells the pet where your floor, sofa and windows are, so it wanders, perches on furniture, naps in its favourite corner and looks out of your window. Soft shadows ground it on your real floor.

It is built for bare hands, so it feels like having a pet rather than playing with one. Your fingers have real colliders: you stroke along its back, find the spot it loves most, hold out a treat, throw a ball with a real throw, point at critters for it to pounce on and scoop it up with both hands. Push too hard and it takes a wobbly step to catch its balance.

What keeps people coming back is that the pet remembers. Each one rolls its own hidden likes and temperament, asks you for food, brushing or play when it needs them, and grows from New Friend to Family through the Bond Journey over days of play. Seven cats and a Shiba Inu to adopt, a cozy daily routine, and two arcade modes, Guardian Mode and Pounce Patrol, when you fancy something livelier.

Pick it if you have always wanted a pet that is really there.

Cozy space adventure

2. Starship Home

Your living room becomes a spaceship. Virtual windows and control panels appear on your real walls, and you travel between planets collecting and caring for strange alien plants. Its use of your room mesh is some of the best on Quest, though a few puzzles are tougher than the cute art suggests.

Pick it if you want a story to explore at your own pace.

Eco-sim

3. Living Room

Grow little island ecosystems on your desk and coffee table, fill them with animals from sheep to gorillas and breed new ones. A gentle, kid-friendly sandbox with a creative mode for free building.

Pick it if you like tending a whole miniature world rather than one companion.

Companion adventure

4. Stay: Forever Home

A fantasy creature called Ember arrives through a portal in your room, learns voice commands like "come" and later leads you through a door into a fully virtual world. A heartfelt mix of mixed reality and classic VR.

Pick it if you want a pet story that goes beyond your room.

Cat collecting

5. Neko Atsume Purrfect

The mobile cat-collecting favourite in VR, with dozens of cats to attract with toys and treats. On Quest 3 a mixed reality mode brings one cat into your room to play with.

Pick it if you already love Neko Atsume and want to collect lots of cats.

Free creature pet

6. Hello, Dot

A free spin-off of the Peridot pet series. Feed your colourful Dot with a hand gesture, dip it in paint, play minigames and dress it up with accessories.

Pick it if you want a free, playful creature to try mixed reality pets.

Building puzzles

7. LEGO Bricktales

Relaxed LEGO diorama puzzles and a light, charming story. On Quest 3 you can build the dioramas right on your own table in mixed reality.

Pick it if you like calm puzzles and building with bricks.

Free showcase

8. First Encounters

The free mixed reality demo that comes with Quest 3. Fluffy aliens break through your walls and you round them up. Short and bouncier than the rest of this list, but a great first look at what your headset can do.

Pick it if you just unboxed a Quest 3 and want to see mixed reality.

What makes a mixed reality game cozy?

We think the best cozy MR games share three things. They respect your space: they use your real walls, floor and furniture instead of covering them up. They let you go at your own pace, with no timers you can't ignore and no punishment for stepping away. And they give you something to come back to, whether that is a plant that grew, a creature that changed or a pet that is happy to see you.

Most of these games are best on Quest 3 or 3S, whose full-colour passthrough and room scanning make virtual things look at home. MyVrPet also runs on Quest Pro. Check each game's store page for the latest headset support and price.
